Hi hair lovers!!!
Rice water is an ancient hair care routine which is practiced by the Yao women from Huangluo Village, in Guangxi Province, in southern China. The Yao women are known for their long, thick and black hair. Their long hair is the results of fermented rice water and has been their secret to beautiful hair for the village women and imperial princesses in the East since ancient times.
Fermented rice water is rice water that has gone slightly sour. It is rich in antioxidants, minerals, vitamin E, and traces of pitera, a substance produced during the fermentation process. These nutrients in the rice water help to heal scars and reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and inflammation, leaving the skin with a healthy glow.
Washing the hair with fermented rice water brings more than just the shine to your hair. It makes hair soft, strong, and healthy. The Yao women believe that the fermented rice water helps to keep their hair black up past the age of 80.
I first saw this rice water on Discovering Natural‘s youtube channel, where she shows step by step process on how to do the rice water.
Process:
- Rinse the rice to remove any impurities;
- boil the rise;
- pour the rice water into a container and seal;
- let it sit for 24-48 hours for fermentation process;
- boil the rice water to stop it from fermenting;
- dilute with water;
- add 5 drops of lavender, and rosemary oil
I use the rice water as a final rice after rinsing out my DC. It serves two purposes for me a strengthening rinse and lock to lock in the moisture in my cuticles as I need to thoroughly rinse the rice water with cold water. What I have noticed is that my hair is much stronger, shinier and softer. I am planning on using the rice water for the remainder of my hair challenge.
Oh wow, we live and we learn right! I have never heard of this practice. Does the rise water smell after fermentation?
Thanks for the informative post

The last time I did it, it was smelling because I left it for too long. The smells is overpowered by the lavender and rosemary oils.

I tried that rice water for a week. I’m still not sure if it’s the reason why my hair is growing since I’m also taking Biotin. Nice, detailed post.

I think you can use any essential oil that can help with blood circulation and which helps also to promote hair growth.
